Segfault under gentoo
Apparently, as reported by @poncho, MAT2 is segfaulting under gentoo:

It would be nice if someone could run this under GDB an get a nice backtrace, so we can investigate further.
Having a gentoo target in our .gitlab-ci.yml
would prevent such things from re-happening once fixed.
