allow SMTP over Tor
The basic idea is to allow both servers and client to deliver to a mx server via Tor.
Basic outline:
- The receiving mx server is set up with a hidden service, allowing port 25.
- The .onion address of the mx server is added to DNS or published in a list somewhere.
- Sending servers known to search for these .onion addresses, and set up alternate transport maps to use them in place of the actual domain.
This approach lets you continue to use normal username@domain addresses. An alternate approach is taken by the SMTorP proposal to allow username@hiddenservice.onion, but I don't find that very useful.
