fix bug in systray that prevents hiding of items on linux

sometimes, but not always, immediately after polling the backend for the status (whatever the thing is that happens every 30 seconds) the systray menu will show this:

VPN is on
Turn on
Turn off

it goes away eventually and correctly shows just 'Turn off'. it is hard to reproduce, because it only happens sometimes and then the problem corrects itself.

this is a problem because if you choose turn on while it is already on, everything freaks out and the ui stops working, at least for me.
