non-english locales make the app stall on splash screen

I just tried out latest/candidate: 0.21.11-7-g39e3d6f 2021-12-15 (178) 235MB classic on Kubuntu 18.04.6 LTS,
The app keeps staying in loading screen when starting it.
The logs are shwing an issue with Splash.qml:
