better integration with windows taskbar

It has been pointed out that the systray is easily lost in the notifications bar. We've discussed previously that a splash screen might help with that (I think other apps do this, instructing users to look for the icon in the systray upon first run).

A main application window (#322) that minimizes to systray, with on/off controls, is also something that could be useful to reduce confusion. In the past i've tried to use the systray tooltip to give hints to the user about the minimized state.
