python-gnupg initialization might take a long time on some platforms
It seems that in some platforms with smart card readers the initialization of python-gnupg module can be a lot slower, mainly because of a call to @gpg --list-config --with-colons@.
We use that library in the client, and could maybe avoid that overhead by either passing the gpg version to the python object initialization or finding another way to get the version that is not influenced by the presence of smart card readers.
