macOS install fails via nix
An emerging alternative to homebrew
, is nix
. A mat2
package is available and marked as compatible. Install is refused because of an unsupported dependency on libcap, which seems to make sense since that appears to depend on Linux.
$ nix-env -iA nixpkgs.mat2
installing 'mat2-0.12.2'
error: Package ‘libcap-2.49’ in /nix/store/.../nixpkgs/pkgs/os-specific/linux/libcap/default.nix:59 is not supported on ‘x86_64-darwin’, refusing to evaluate.
I am new to nix
. I considered reporting it there, but they seem swamped with around 5,000 outstanding issues. :/
Is this dependency on libcap incorrect? I'll try and file a bug with nix
if so. I cannot use the homebrew
package anymore as it (currently) fails on compilation of llvm
-- yes, I'm stuck on abandoned hardware. :(
Thank you for this useful, bandwidth and privacy saving tool! :)
