in my lineageos-device i use the bitmask app as my vpn-tool. for sending e-mails i use the app k-9 mail. it works really fine with one exception:
bitmask prevents k-9 mail sending e-mails with my posteo-account. posteo is an german mail-provider which is focused on security and privacy.
everytime i try to send an e-mail from my posreo-account, it says:
> Mails could not be sent (my translation from the german notice). SocketTimeoutExeption: failed to connect to posteo.de/2a..
receiving mails is no problem.
with my other account (not posteo) it works without any problems.
after several mails with the posteo-support they advised me to ask here in the forum if the bitmask app blocks the relevant ports:
ssl/tls, port 465 or starttls, port 587
it does not matter which port i try, the note is allways:
> Could not finish installation. Can not connect with the server. (Unable to open connection to SMTP
> server.)
on my desktop computer i have no problems at all with a similar combination: bitmask, thunderbird, posteo. sending and receiving were and are never a problem.
any ideas?

I've, in prior versions of mint, run bitmask fine. Now, I can open it from terminal and connect to a providor but the web browser tells me there's no connection. I've not anything weird set on the firewall for mint. Everything seems to come down to errors with gstreamer, which I don't post at length, though I can run it again and post if that's helpful.
Here's what terminal tells me while it's running bitmask:

After manually editing the sources.list I installed it through terminal. The install process went through, but when I launch bitmask the window doesn't show (but bitmask is visible in the running tasks).
When I run in through terminal I get this at the end:
`AttributeError: 'QWebEnginePage' object has no attribute 'mainFrame'`
I am a newbie with linux environnement and coding...
I'm not sure which piece of information could be useful in resolving this issue. Ask me if any more details are required.

There's nothing in .config/leap/bitmaskd.pid

I created a Debian testing box to make sure it was not the sand boxing of parrot. I found that apt pinning openssl to stable solved the problem. I saw posted somewhere that openssl in testing will only us tls 1.2. I'm guessing that is the issue. Just providing info. From the sources lists it becomes clear they're on a i386 install; given that Canonical wants to drop that too someday (https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-discuss/2016-June/016661.html) and we have said that we don't want to spend too much effort on i386 ourselves: should we update documentation, or rather add i386 python-sqlcipher package?
Contains python-sqlcipher
http://deb.leap.se/client/dists/master/bionic/binary-amd64/Packages
Doesn't contain python-sqlcipher
http://deb.leap.se/client/dists/master/bionic/binary-i386/Packages
Same goes for all i386 archs; while checking https://0xacab.org/leap/pysqlcipher/blob/master/.gitlab-ci.yml we're relying on "0xacab.org:4567/leap/gitlab-buildpackage:build_${DIST}_${ARCH}" but that registry has only amd64 images: https://0xacab.org/leap/gitlab-buildpackage/container_registry
So I think we should check if we really want to spend the effort in supplying i686 packages.
