Make tails-persistence easier to scroll
As part of ongoing Tails trainings, I have participants set up persistence using the persistence tool. Unfortunately, when choosing items to add to persistence, most do not realize there’s more options under the fold because they do not notice the razor-thin scrollbar, and only save the first six or so items, leaving out things like network connections resulting in ongoing confusion e.g. “why didn’t my wi-fi password get saved?” One thing of note: This stealthy scrollbar is set up to mostly disappear in Nautilus but Tor Browser is somehow able to keep it visible.
A related issue is that once I point out that there is a scrollbar, most have a challenging time using a trackpad to get a hold of it to scroll. One participant straight up gave up trying and said he couldn’t do it and I had to use my counter-strike-trained fingers to move the cursor over the scrollbar. This also brings up other accessibility concerns, as it may be more of a challenge for older users, who would have to be expected to have sharp enough eyes to see the mostly invisible scrollbar while also having the dexterity to click down on it.
UX recommendation:
Since the calibration of trackpads in XOrg/GNOME/idk across infinite manufacturers is likely not an easily fixable problem, the second best workaround may be to use or create a theme with thicker and more visible scrollbars.
