Document what to do when the #tails IRC Channel ask users for being registered
Hi,
The #tails@irc.oftc.net is listed as an official way to chat with tails people in various place on the website [1,2]. The pidgin chat application is also by default configured to connect on this chat [2].
However, sometimes, the channel has to be put in +R mode to prevent floods etc. This leads new users that are not very in touch with IRC to be asked for being registered.
I think we sould:
- Make it clear that tails don’t ask you be registered :
- It is only a temporary mesure in case of problem
- That is delegated to the servers the oftc network
- Inform users about a worharound , even if it is just come a bit
later.
Or at least discuss about it.
Please not that although it is somehow related to the Tor blocking of OFTC, it is an other issue, where users are explicitely asked to be registered when they try to reach the official tails chat, something that some don’t understand and that can be documented in a few lines.
